Childbirth, also known as labor, delivery, birth, partum, or parturition, is the culmination the end of pregnancy with the delivery of newborn infant(s) from a woman s uterus. A normal childbirth can be categorized into three stages of labor they are: the dilation of the cervix, descent and birth of the infant, and the delivery of the placenta or after birth. There is a trend that has been rising where the mother consumes the placenta after the birth. This is to retain the vitamins and minerals that were present while the woman was pregnant and is a way to continue for a period of time to give the same vitamins and minerals to the infant. Standards of care in labor and delivery at hospitals around the country have changed over the years, from the way medication is administered, when doctors will induce labor, to what happens to the baby immediately after birth which is different in every situation. Despite what many might think, trends in labor and delivery is well known across hundreds of nations all over the world.
